Winter Garden

Forming part of a major redevelopment of Sheffield City Centre, the Winter Garden is a stunning contribution to the Heart of the City Project, combining sophistication and elegance with pure design clarity. Housing a collection of Mediterranean plants, the building forms a public route between the Tudor square to the east and the first stage of the development, the Peace Gardens, to the north. A series of larch arches, enclosed by a glass and steel shell, forms the building’s structure which, while being physically impressive, manages to sit comfortably in its setting. The design respects the scale of neighbouring buildings at either end, and successfully links other key new developments. The success of the Winter Gardens is indisputable, already becoming a popular destination for shoppers, workers and school parties alike.
