Christie's Education, 42 Portland Place

Westminster, London

Following a successful collaboration on the South Kensington project, Pringle Richards Sharratt Architects were appointed in 2017 for the adaptation of 42 Portland Place, a Grade II* listed townhouse, as the new home of Christie’s Education London.

The brief was to move all of the existing facilities from their location in Great Titchfield Street to a new flagship facility in the heart of Marylebone.

Due to space constraints, PRS worked closely with the faculty staff to ensure all of the required functions of the education offer were adequately provided, through liaison with all of the stakeholders. The final scheme included a reworking of basement areas to provide a suitable library and study facilities.

This Grade II listed property required a sensitive upgrade in order to provide modern AV facilities and a functional space required for teaching and display. It is comprised of 6 floors providing lecture and seminar rooms, staff offices, student facilities including a library, study spaces and common room. The project was managed carefully to ensure all of the historical features and spaces remained to provide an appropriate and uplifting environment in which to study and teach.
