The Hull History Centre won a Civic Trust Award at the Awards Ceremony at the People's History Museum in Manchester on 4th March. The citation said:

The Stanley Spencer Gallery has won a Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead Design Award in the Renovations and Extensions Category - re-planning of the interior to provide new gallery space, with external alterations to relocate a listed telephone kiosk and create an accessible new glazed entrance and external surfacing.

Hull History Centre has been shortlisted as a Finalist in the 2011 Civic Trust Awards. From 333 national and international entries, 57 projects have been successful in the 2011 Civic Trust Awards. The winners will be announced at the Awards Ceremony on Friday 4th March at the People’s History Museum in Manchester.

Pringle Richards Sharratt Architects has won planning consent for a £3.75m extension to the UK’s only gallery dedicated to the work of William Morris.

The three storey scheme for the William Morris Gallery was approved by Waltham Forest Council last week. Work is due to start next summer, and it is hoped the venue in Walthamstow, east London, will be open in time for the 2012 games.

The Hull History Centre won an award in the Community or Residential Structures category of the Institution of Structural Engineers Awards 2010.

The judges commented: "An arcade of ETFE cushions on curved Glulam ribs provides a sinuous welcoming entrance to Hull’s new archives."

The Teaching Block at Cranleigh School was shortlisted in the 2010 Brick Awards in the Best Education Building Category.

The Hull History Centre has won the Wood Award in the Structural Category. The winners of The Wood Awards 2010 were revealed at an event presided over by previous Gold Award winner Sir Jeremy Dixon on Thursday 21st October.

The judges' citation said: "The architects have done an excellent job making an ordinary space more exciting with this interesting structural arrangement. An elegant and clever piece of architecture."

Historic building in Brixton now set to become new heritage centre

Funding worth more than £5m is being given to support the development of the Black Cultural Archives (BCA) in Brixton, it was announced today. The BCA archive collection numbers over 10,000 historical archive documents, spanning some five centuries, from letters and personal papers to periodicals, ephemera and photographs.

Waltham Forest is celebrating a significant boost today: confirmation that Walthamstow’s William Morris Gallery is being granted £1.5m by the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Home to the family of William Morris from 1848 to 1856, the Gallery is devoted to England's best-known designer and houses superb collections illustrating Morris' life, achievements and continuing influence, including woven and printed fabrics, ceramics, wallpaper, furniture and his political works.
